Hello readers, I hope everyone is doing great, staying cozy and warm and reading good books. Today I am coming at you with an end of the year classic; the best books i’ve read in 2020. The past year has been one of a kind but despite of it all I have read some really good books so let’s talk about those babies.
2020 may have been a one star but i have read more than one five stars hehe (cheesy … I know)
(these are in no particular order)
Heartstopper (volume one & two) by Alice Oseman
”Heartstopper”, which originally started as a webcomic, is the story of two boys as they fall in love and discover who they are while surviving everyday’s shenanigans as queer teenagers. The best way to describe this series is CUTE & QUEER which is honestly everything I need in a graphic novel.
Alice Oseman did not only write the story but they also drew every single illustrations. I highly HIGHLY recommend you pick this one up if you haven’t already, everything about this series is beautiful.

Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu
Another queer graphic novel… Are we seeing a theme here? ”Mooncakes” by Suzanne Walker is a sapphic graphic novel that follows Nova, a witch raised by her grandmothers and Tam, a non binary werewolf.
Everything about this book is perfect in every single way. The characters are flawed and beautifully written. Just like “Heartstopper”, this graphic novel is super cute and super queer; the perfect mix!

Maybe You Should Talk To Someone by Lori Gottlieb
If you haven’t seen my spoiler free review of “Maybe You Should Talk To Someone” by Lori Gottlieb, I highly suggest you do. This book was a total surprise. I do not usually read non fictions only because they usually don’t interest me as much as fiction does but somehow, this one found its way onto my list of favourite books of the year.
To keep it short, the story follows a therapist, her clients, the therapist she herself see’s and different aspects of her life as she deals with going through a breakup. In my own personal opinion, so many lessons can be taken from reading this book, I highly recommend people who are interested in mental health, whether it’s the field or their own mental health, to check out this book.

The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by Victoria Schwab
Victoria Schwab did it again with Addie Larue. I literally have no words to describe how much I loved this book. The writing was beautiful, the story was heartbreaking, the characters, everlasting. Everything was just so beautifully done and so painful but s o addicting. Halfway through it i knew it would rank on my list of favourite books of the year as well as my list of favourite books ever.
I cried, I laughed, I smiled and had so many feelings. The Invisible Life of Addie Larue made me feel understood and visible. I went in expecting a beautiful melancholic love story and was not disappointed with the amount of times it took my heart and shattered it into pieces.

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
When I first heard about this book I was really excited to finally read a fantasy YA novel following a POC Transgender main character. I mean we’re almost in 2021 BRING ON THE DIVERSITY DAM*IT .. 🙃
I read this one for the Bibliophile Book Club (which is ran by four amazing queer readers that I am lucky call my friends ❤ ) for their October 2020 pick and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed my time reading the story. I learned a lot about the Mexican culture which I believe is an ownvoice representation as Aiden himself is part of that culture.

The Storm Crow and The Crow Rider by Kalyn Josephson
First of all, not only are these covers absolutely stunning, but the stories they hold are just as amazing. I read the first one ”The Storm Crow” in just a few hours and fell completely in love with the world and the characters.
Right now, while i am writing this, I am currently half way through ”The Crow Rider” and loving it just as much as the first one. Hopefully i’ll find the time to sit down and finish it by the end of 2020 which is in less than 36 hours…. Wish me luck!

Get a Life Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert
”Get a Life Chloe Brown” is one of the first adult romance book I read this past year and I couldn’t have picked a better book to introduce me to a new book genre. It was also one of my first time reading a book with a disabled main character.
Now, I can’t say how good or not the representation was as I am not disabled myself, but the story itself is one I really enjoyed reading and am super excited to read about the two other Brown sisters in the upcoming year.

Mirage by Somaiya Daud
Alright, here we have another cover that i think is absolutely breathtaking. I’ve had this book on my tbr for such a long time and for some unknown reason I never picked it up because I was so intimidated by it despite not knowing much about it. When I finally picked it up in June, the only thing I regretted was not having picked it up sooner. The words written in this book, the way things were describe, the flawed characters, and the multidimensional world were just some of the things that made this book one of my favourite read of 2020.
If you like fantasy, science-fiction, beautifully written verses, badass characters, and a story packed with culture and values, this one is definitely for you!

Unravel The Dusk by Elizabeth Lim
Now, if you know me at all or have been following my blog for a little while, you know that I loved ”Spin The Dawn” more than I love my own self so of course, I had to include it’s sequel on this list. The cover is gorgeous, the story is beautiful, the characters are lovable, everything about this duology speaks to me on an higher level and i’m already excited for my third reread of it in 2021.

The Folk of Air trilogy by Holly Balck
I read the first book ”The cruel Prince” a year or two ago and never picked up the rest of the books for no real reason. This year, after a friend of mine was reading the trilogy and telling about how much they were enjoying the books, I decided it was time for me to pick them up again and finally read the entire trilogy.
Although the books themselves aren’t my favourites ever, I really did enjoy my time reading them and am now fully engulfed in the world. I’ve recently ordered the newest companion novel to the trilogy ”How The King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories” and i’m super excited for it to get here so I can revisite the world.

The Seven Husband Of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
After falling deeply in love with the story of Evelyn Hugo back in 2018 when I first read it, this novel has been one that I’ve thought about on the daily. I finally picked up the audio book this year in hopes it would get me out of a reading lump and it did not disappoint.
The story of Evelyn Hugo is such a beautiful and heartbreaking one it got me head over heels in love with the main character’s life philosophy. The audiobook was honestly so amazing I highly suggest listen to the audio version if you want to read this novel, I think it’s the best way to consume this book.

Caraval Trilogy by Stephanie Garber
After reading the first book years ago and actually enjoying despite not picking up the rest of the trilogy, I finally finished reading this series in 2020 and just like ”The Folk of Air” trilogy, I really enjoyed learning about the world and the characters and my revisitation of them.
Everything that has a circus theme going on, is usually something that I love and caraval is no different from the others. Although, critically it does not feature on my list of best written worlds and fleshed out characters, the story is unique in its own way and I had a great time reading the books.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
I picked up this book after a friend of mine had been talking my ears off about Laini Taylor’s ”Daughter of Smoke and Bone” trilogy. I didn’t know much about the series before picking it up apart from the fact that it took place in the same world as ”Strange the Dreamer” by the same author which is one of my all time favourite books.
I started reading the book and I immediately fell in love with the blue haired and tattooed main characters. Everything about her was screaming WIFE MATERIAL to me and I just fell in love. After loving the first book so much, I picked up the second one and was a little disappointed. I didn’t love the sequel as much as the first book which lead me to never picking up the third and final installment in the trilogy. Perhaps 2021 will be the year where I finish this trilogy.

So there you have it, twenty of my favourite books i’ve read in 2020! Looking back, I am realizing how many books I have read and loved this past year as well as how long the past year as been LOL…. Just a few days and it will be over 😌
Please let me know in the comments down below if you’ve read any of the books i’ve mention and if you enjoyed reading them!
Thank you so much for reading and for those of you who have followed and supported me all through 2020, every like, comment, share, etc is appreciated more than you could ever know so thank you and until next year 😉 Xoxo
