another post, another tag – queer booktag

Good morning beautiful people and welcome to today’s post; the queer booktag – which i wasn’t tagged to do but am doing anyway – originally created Anja over on youtube (original video will be down below) I’ve been wanting to do this tag for a while now and since, i’ve been posting so many tags lately i thought it was best to wait but C’MON, it’s pride month, this tag cannot wait any longer!

Questions

1. Queer Faves. What’s your favourite queer book you’ve read this year?

Like everyone else in the book community, my curiosity was picked when The House in the Cerulean Sea took over the internet with the hype it was receiving and of course I had to pick it up. Well spoiler alert, it did not deceive. This book was so good in so many ways and even though it did not focus on the mlm relationship that takes place in the book i think the queer rep in this story is beautiful. The book has so much to give and offer, the overall representation of pure love in this book is what makes it my favourite queer book i’ve read so far in 2021.

2. Lesbian. What’s your favourite f/f book?

Clap When you Land is Elizabeth Acevedo’s third published book and just like the other two, this book was fantastic. Acevedo has a writing style that is unique, engaging and so emotional. The wlw relationship in this book is a beautiful rep and the overall story is a beautiful one that deals with lots of heavier subjects like grief, family secrets and coming to terms with your identity. anyone who loves YA contemporary should give Acevedo’s books a try because I truly think everyone will get something positive out of these books.

3. MLM. What’s your favourite MLM book?

If you haven’t read the Heartstopper books by Alice Oseman than WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?! Heartstopper is a series of graphic novels that follows a mlm love story has it develops and figures itself out. it is pure, innocent, beautiful and amazing in every possible way. There is nothing negative i can say about ALice Oseman’s Heartstopper, I love it with my entire being and i will continue to consume everything that has to do with heartstopper until the day i die and you should too.

4. Bisexual. What’s your favourite book with a bisexual main character?

I’ve talked about The Seven Husband’s of Evelyn Hugo enough times to know i love it. There’s just so much to love and appreciate from Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel that follows Evelyn hugo as a young Hollywood Starlet as she discovers herself and deals with problems of the industry. This story is beautifully written and told in the most entertaining format, it is a book i have been recommending to everyone – readers and non readers – ever since reading it for the first time myself and I will continue to praise and recommend this book for a long time.

5. Transgender. What’s your favourite trans book?

Mooncakes by Wendy Xu and Suzanne Walker is one of my favourite book ever. It is a comfort read to me that i go back to whenever i feel unsure of things and need a safe space to crawl into for an hour or so. Mooncakes is a graphic novel following queer main characters who have been estranged for a number of years and finally find their way back together when a catastrophe occurs where both are somehow involved. If you love graphic novels, witchcraft, adorable yet badass characters and fantastical creatures then I highly suggest you give Mooncakes a try.

6. Queer. What’s your favourite own voices queer book?

Cemetery Boys is a fabulous and remarkable book written by Trans author Aiden Thomas that took over the book community world when it came out in 2020 and for good reasons! this book has everything: queer rep, poc, culture, fantasy, self identity and self discovery and so much more. Not only is this book filled with every important subject you could think of but it is also an entertaining page turner that you will not want to put down until the very last page. For a debut novel, Aiden Thomas really went all out and I cannot wait to read more of their stories.

7. Aro/Ace. What’s your favourite book with aro/ace representation?

This book is one of my favourite books ever and Amanda Foody has to be in my top five favourite authors. Daughter of the Burning City has more than one LGBTQIA+ character and what I love about Amanda Foody’s books is that the queer rep is not the main focus of her books. We have bisexual, demi sexual and lesbian rep in this novel. This book is such a fascinating one to me and i feel like it is not nearly talked about enough for how great it is. If you like the found family trope, circus-themed books filled with secrets and writing styles that tug at your emotions and take you on a wild ride then definitely give Amanda Foody’s debut a go.

8. Pansexual. What’s your favourite book with pansexual representation?

I’m not going to lie, this prompt was the most difficult for me to find a book for and that is a problem. After countless google search i finally found a book that I had read and loved that also featured pansexual representation. The Upside of Unrequited is a funny yet relatable YA Novel that follows our main character Molly has she deals with all the crushes she’s had. If you’ve read any of Becky Albertalli’s books you know she’s the queen of YA, her characters are all fleshed out in a way that makes them all different and all enjoyable to read. She is an incredible queer author and everyone should check her out in my opinion, there’s not a single book of hers I didn’t love.

9. QPOC. What’s your favourite book with QPOC representation?

I read this a few weeks ago and I was not expecting to love it as much as i did! this is not just a fluffy ya romance book, it is filled with important discussions and heavy subjects matter that we don’t see enough in ya contemporaries. The book shows us a relationship that has many issues but they also show us how to deal with those issues in a healthy way and that is SO IMPORTANT is YA literature. HOnestly, after reading this book it definitely secured a spot on my all time favourites. It is a book i will be rereading for years to come.

10. What queer books are you looking forward to in the rest of 2021 or in 2022?

If I am not mistaken, One Last Stop by Casey Mcquiston, was released just a few days ago and honestly, I don’t know much about it other than it follows a bisexual main character, has an adorable cover and that most of my friends who have read it have ADORED it and honestly, that’s all I need. I’m super excited to finally pick it up – sooner than later, hopefully – and see what the hype is all about.

I tag Iza and Leila to do this tag and anyone else who wants to do it!
