Rereading my favourite book – Strange The Dreamer – Spoiler free

amazon.com

As part of my 12 books recommended by 12 friends challenge, I was recommended by a friend to read Strange The Dreamer and Muse Of Nightmares by Laini Taylor. I read Strange The Dreamer for the first time probably a few months after it had been published in 2017 and I fell completely in love with the story, the characters and especially, the writing. Since then, I have reread the book many times but never have I read Muse Of Nightmares. So here we are, this is my yearly reread of Strange The Dreamer and attempt at finally getting to Muse Of Nightmares by Laini Taylor – review to come when I finally get to reading it.

I started my reread of Strange The Dreamer while isolated at home with covid (which is also when I decided to prewrite many blog posts so many future posts may mention covid lmao my bad I have nothing else to do), I was looking for a comforting book I knew I would enjoy and would make me travel to another world since I was literally stuck on my couch for two weeks; what better than to take this opportunity of having nothing to do then to revisit my favourite book in the entire world ?

I picked it up one night and as soon as I read the first sentence it felt like I was back home, I was sucked into the story right away. If you’ve read this book or any of Laini Taylor’s books, you know how lyrical and poetical her writing is. I honesty have been wanting a quote from this book tattooed on me for the longest time but I can’t seem to pick a favourite quote because every sentences is so well writing I’d want the entire story written on me but i do not have that kind of money or the pain endurance.

It was impossible, of course, but when did that stop any dreamer from dreaming ?

Let’s talk about the characters and the world

The story follows main character Lazlo Strange, a librarian who has a found passion for books, words, history and mostly the mystery of the lost city of Weep who has mysteriously vanished two hundreds years ago. Filled with mysteries, magic and gods, the journey to figure out what happened to the lost city of Weep will remind you why you love reading so much.

Even though I knew all of the twists and turns, as I was reading, I was still so invested in the story and where it was going to take me. What I love the most about this book is the many intricate tiny details. Since I have read it so many times, I know what the story is about but the details, which can be forgotten after a year of not picking it up, feel so warm when I reread them because they remind me why I love this book so much. Rereading Strange The Dreamer feels like looking through a family album and revisiting a sweet memory you thought you had forgotten but hadn’t really.

I love how gods and goddesses are part of this story. Not only in characters but as messages and metaphors as well. They transcend in the writing itself and make everything more sumptuous. Overall, this story brings me comfort and enchants me every time I pick it up.

Strange The Dreamer is a book for story lovers – if you like adventures, intricate magic abilities, gods and goddesses, whimsical writing and incredible world building – then I suggest you give Strange The Dreamer a chance.
