My year in books – 2022 reading statistics

HEYYY we’re in the year 2023, the year of the Water Rabbit, symbolic of longevity, peace, and prosperity in Chinese culture. 2023 is a year where I have a lot of goals, in my personal life, my professional life and, in my reading journey, but today we’re here to discuss the how, when, where, why and who of my reading tendencies from the past twelve months.

In 2022 I read a total of 49 books, my goal for the year was 24 books. Out of this, 39 were first time reads and 10 were rereads. I read 23 of theses books via audiobook and the rest I read the physical copies. 2 of these 49 books were ARCs (advance reader copies).

New discoveries of 2022

My top 5 favourite books of the year (in no particular order) – first time reading

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang, Making Love With The Land by Joshua Whitehead , A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson & I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy – Full review HERE

An author I discovered this past year; Richard Wagamese

Richard Wagamese was one of Canada’s foremost Native authors and storytellers. He worked as a professional writer since 1979. He was a newspaper columnist and reporter, radio and television broadcaster and producer, documentary producer and the author of twelve titles from major Canadian publishers.

I read two of his books in 2022 – One Native Life (5 stars) & One Story, One Song (4.5 stars).

Statistics

Overall, 2022 was a good reading year. although I did read less than what I usually read, most of the books I read were either 5 stars or 4 stars with a few exceptions. I discovered new books i now consider some of my all time favourites, I reread some of my all time favourite books and discovered many authors, two of which are indigenous authors I now plan on reading their entire bibliography in 2023.

I do whish I had read more ARCs and reviewed more of them but perhaps 2023 is the year where I fully commit to being a book reviewer ?!

How did you reading year go? Did you achieve you goal(s)? Let’s discuss in the comments down below!

  1. Only read 5 books in 2022, but it felt good to rest. I started 2023 on a much better foot.
