five books i always recommend to non readers

Good morning readers and happy Sunday!

It’s been snowing pretty heavily where I live for the past few days (yes you read that correctly, apparently we’ve skipped spring and summer and forwarded to winter right away) and I haven’t been in the mood to read, write or do much of anything if i’m being honest. So after an excessive amount of coffee, most of the things on my to do list have been done which means I now have no excuse to not sit down and work on a blog post; today i’m sharing five books I always recommend to non readers and explain why I think everyone should read them!

ps; when i say non readers i mean people who don’t consider reading as a hobby and aren’t part of the reading community

Becoming by Michelle Obama

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I personally think everyone can benefit from reading Michelle’s biography. There is so much to learn from this amazing woman that is Michelle Obama, former first lady of the United States. I especially recommend listening to the audiobook version if you can as Michelle herself narrates the story and it makes everything 10 times better and more real. Michelle Obama is a strong woman, an advocate for many and someone I highly look up to for so many reasons and I will never stop recommending her autobiography to readers and non readers.

Maybe You Should Talk To Someone by Lori Gottlieb

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

If you know me IRL, then i’m sorry because of course I have been pestering you to read ”Maybe You Should Talk To Someone” ever since i’ve read it and loved it myself. I believe this book is an important one we can all learn something from. The story of a therapist, her clients and her own therapist that shows you how flawed and beautiful humans can be. This is a book I, myself, will be returning to more than once in the future.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is another beautiful story that I think most people would enjoy. The story follows Cuban Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo as she remesinces on her entire life from the start of her career, to her seven marriages until the present day. There are so many life lessons and important things to take from Evelyn’s story I think everyone should read it. I would also recommend the audiobook version of this book if it is available to you since it has a full cast and soundtracks added to the audiobook which brings the story even more to life.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

Rating: 5 out of 5.

This book is one that made me fall in love with the beauty that is writing. The writing style in this book, the prose and the storytelling are all so beautifully done and so heart wrenching. The story of a boy whose mother is dying of cancer yet the book doesn’t mention the word cancer even once. The emotions told through the writing of this book is magical, intense and ravishing.

The book Thief by Markus

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Another beautifully written book that follows a young girl who learns to read and the importance of books while surviving the second world war. The story itself is told by an unusual character, one that we tend to hate but come to realise it is only being its true nature. Death is discussed in so many ways in this book it makes you wonder about the meaning of life and the important things we encounter everyday.

  1. From this list, I have read Becoming and A Monster Calls – both phenomenal. As a reader I never pick up non-fiction but listening to Becoming was amazing, Michelle is a wonderful narrator and the book was beautiful; I would totally recommend it too! ❤
